NC welcomes call to release political detainees
April/10 | am:11:58 / No Comments 234 viewsThe Vice President of the National Congress Party (NC) for Party Affairs, Dr Faisal Hassan Ibrahim, has welcomed calls by the forces of the National Dialogue to the President of the Republic on political detainees release.
Faisal has pointed out in press statements following his meeting with the political forces taking part in the National Accord Government, that the meeting comes within the context of the consultations on major national issues and on questions raised by the President of the Republic during his speech in the National Legislature last week, including the consultations on drafting a permanent constitution for the country.
The Secretary General of the Democratic Unionist Party, Dr Ahmed Bilal Osman, said the forces taking part in the National Accord Government were of the view that implementation of the Resolutions and Recommendations of the National Dialogue would be carried out in the presence of the main guarantor who is the President of the Republic and that therefore they have agreed to rename him for the coming elections
Dr Bilal who is also the Minister for Information and the Official Spokesman for the Government added that the group following the meeting at the Head Office of the NC appealed to the President of the Republic to order the release of all political detainees in the country with the view to prepare the climate for the formation of the Higher Committee on the Drafting of the Permanent Constitution.
He said drafting the permanent constitution requires participation of all political forces and all elements including the rebels who are still carrying guns, urging the holdouts to abandon their current stands and to join the National Dialogue Process.
