August/30 | am:10:48 / No Comments 117 viewsThe Head of the Sudanese Journalists Union Al-Sadig Ibrahim al-Rizeigi has stressed the importance of the statistical system in building economic, developmental and social plans and strategies on which the country relies on, pointing to the need to raise the culture of statistical information for journalists. In his address to the panel on briefing to the Sudanese journalists, at the Sudanese Journalists Union’s headquarters , by the Norwegian expert Mr. John Aulak who is visiting the country during the period 27-30 of the current August, Al-Rizeigi welcomed Mr. Aulak visit to the union’s headquarters within the framework of cooperation between the Sudanese Central Bureau of Statistics and its Norwegian counterpart. The Head of the Sudanese Journalists Union urged the Central Bureau of Statistics to provide accurate information to the journalists, hoping that the journalists benefit from the briefing of the Norwegian expert and the experience of his country in this area. For her part, the representative of the Central Statistical Bureau Sumaya Ibrahim explained the importance of benefiting from the Norwegian experience and cooperation in the field of training between the two countries in the field of statistics, hoping to be fruitful cooperation helping bridge the gap between the journalists and statisticians. Meanwhile, the Norwegian Statistician, John Aulak, said that statistics in Norway is a very important issue as it is considered a core of the work of journalists they depend on it in news, reports and press stories. He revealed that he had been working for 12 years in this field and worked for 5 years as a journalist in a daily newspaper, adding that he is interested in giving journalists the experience of making use of the statistics for its importance and usefulness to decision-makers because it provides them with basic information and facts. He added concerned authorities relied on the statistics in measuring the consumer price index (inflation), national data, foreign trade statistics, trade balance and demographic indicators, pointing out to the need to strengthen the partnership between journalists and statisticians to provide reliable and correct information.
