Minister of Justice Receives US Congress Deletion
March/18 | am:9:38 / No Comments 139 viewsThe Minister of Justice, Dr. Mohamed Ahmed Salim, received in his office a delegation of the US Congress, led by Senator Gus Michael Bilirakis in the context of the delegation’s meetings with senior Sudanese officials.
The minister has given a briefing on the tasks and role, the constitutional system, the causes for declaring the state of emergency and the measures relating to it, the legal guarantees for just trial of the accused persons, including the right of appeal and appointment of advocates, and the reasons behind the recent demonstrations in Sudan.
The minister has affirmed that the state is keen to preserve the dignity and humanity of the detainees and not to expose them to any inhuman or illegal treatment.
Dr. Salem has appreciated the role of head of the delegation and other Congress members for enhancing the Sudanese – American relations and overcoming the impediments facing enhancement of the bilateral relations, including the lifting of Sudan from the US list of countries supporting terrorism.
The meeting also discussed the human rights situation in Sudan in general and the role of the fact-finding committees that were formed and the course of its work
